Project Description

In August of 2012, the W.H. Myers Construction Co. completed the construction of the Great Ape Trail at the Philadelphia Zoo. The project represents a continuation of the Zoo's implementation of a campus-wide animal travel system. The 200 foot long exhibit consists of rigid steel framed chute sections that are enveloped using a specially designed stainless steel wire mesh to contain orangutans, gibbons, and gorillas. The chute sections are supported by steel posts that rest on drilled concrete foundations. Great care and coordination was required by the W.H. Myers Construction Co. team to avoid damaging the existing trees and plant life that were integral to the aesthetics of the completed project. This project received national attention from USA Today and the NBC Nightly News. To read more about the national attention click here.
