Project Description
W.H. Myers Construction Co. was the Construction Manager for the Tethered Balloon attraction at The Philadelphia Zoo. The tethered balloon, also known as the Channel 6 Zoo Balloon, stands 126 feet tall and carrys 30 visitors for a fifteen minute ride, 400 feet into the air to gain a safari-like view of the Zoo and panoramic views of the Philadelphia skyline (skyline view 1 | skyline view 2). This attraction designed by Urban Consultants, required the construction of a new 26,000 sq. ft. plaza area, which included extensive sitework, colored concrete, stone retaining wall, landscaping, fencing and numerous utility improvements. Complimenting the plaza is a 1,800 sq. ft. Victorian style building, which houses ticketing, retail, stroller and restroom areas. This project is one of many projects completed by the W.H. Myers Construction Company at The Philadelphia Zoo including Tortoise Yard and Reptile House Renovations, Animal Health Care Center, Wallaby Walkabout, Tiger Trails, and the African Ibis Exhibit.
